Milton Keynes Sinfonia is comprised of talented players from the region with music teachers and outstanding amateurs forming the orchestra.
Currently we have a membership of around 60.
The orchestra was established in 1971 and has been growing in strength under our long-term conductor, David Knight, who has been with the orchestra for over 30 years.
The orchestra gives 4 concerts a year with an additional family Christmas concert biannually.
Our large-scale concerts usually have 8-11 rehearsals, while our May chamber concert typically has 3 rehearsals.
All our concerts over the last two years have sold out! The repertoire for the forthcoming season can be found on our Concerts Page.
We rehearse on a Thursday evening at a beautiful theatre, The Chrysalis Theatre, Willen, Milton Keynes from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
Since our founding over 50 years ago, we have performed most of the great repertoire from symphonies to concertos by composers of the Baroque and Classical periods right up to today’s exciting composers.
We are seeking skilled, ambitious and motivating conductors to continue our exciting journey. Auditions will be held and up to three chosen to conduct either 4th July 2026, or one of the following in the 26-27 season: 28th November 2026, 13th March 2027 or 3rd July 2027.
The proposed fees are £80 per rehearsal and £400 for the concert day. Conductors are self-employed and responsible for their own NI and tax.
A CV and covering letter of application is required and should be emailed to:
chair@mksinfonia.org.uk.
The closing date for applications is 31st October 2025.
Position to Fill - Trombonist Required!
Could you fill one of these positions?
×
If you think you would like to become a full time trombonist with the Milton Keynes Sinfonia
(or can put us in contact with someone who might)
then please contact either David Knight or Christine Hunt on our Contact page.
We welcome, and endeavour to accommodate,
those individuals who wish to join. For this reason, we do not hold formal auditions and there is no set criteria for membership.
The membership fee (from September 2023) is £50 per term or £150 per year.
Concessions (e.g. non-taxpayers): £40 per term or £120 per year.
This covers music hire costs and supports the general administration of the orchestra.
String players are invited along to a rehearsal
then 'self select' by either aspiring (or not) to the repertoire
and our approach. As a guide, a playing level of Grade VI or above
would be necessary to contribute fully.
Wind players, (if and when a place is available)
would be required to have a trial period. The standard is high.
We try to be as 'open access' as we can as it is
very much a community orchestra run primarily for its members and
those interested in supporting them in performance.
Key positions (principals) are usually recruited
directly by David Knight or other existing principals.
Are you a regular concert goer? Why not purchase one of our season tickets?
The ticket runs from September to July and guarantees you a seat at each of our three main concerts
(not including the spring chamber concert).
Included in your season ticket, subscribers receive a complimentary programme and interval refreshment at the three concerts.
Season ticket holders may have their names added to the concert programmes (optional).
